Plot

Sabina thaj o Elvis – that’s Romani, the language of the Roma – and it means: Sabina and Elvis. Sabina and Elvis are Roma and live in Leipzig Grünau. Elvis and his friends Saša, Dani, and Boško have arranged to meet Sabina and her friend Lea.

They want to go dancing. But the bouncer at the club won’t let them in and rudely refuses them entry. Nothing helps, they have to leave again and decide to go to the youth club. There they are welcome and can play table tennis undisturbed, just like in the old days.

Lea and Elvis‘ friends get into Lea’s car. Elvis, on the other hand, stays behind with Sabina and persuades her to ride her bike to the youth club. After initial skepticism, Sabina agrees.

At the youth club, the young men play table tennis while the two young women chat. But Sabina hardly listens to Lea and keeps looking at Elvis. Elvis is also only half paying attention and plays much worse than usual.

Suddenly Elvis is standing in front of Sabina. He asks her if she would like to go for a walk with him. Sabina agrees, and they walk and talk together. Just before she gets on the tram, Sabina gives Elvis her phone number.

The next day, Elvis is sitting in his kitchen with the piece of paper with Sabina’s number in front of him.
Meanwhile, Sabina is lying on her sofa reading. But she keeps interrupting her reading to check her cell phone. After some hesitation, Elvis calls Sabina.

They make plans to meet and spend a lot of time together over the following weeks. But whenever they approach Grünau, Sabina insists that they stop holding hands, because Sabina’s parents must not see them together under any circumstances.
